Where to go for help if you are uninsured or depending on Medi-Cal: In a medical emergency, dial 911. For a nonemergency medical referral, call 211, or call a county or private nonprofit clinic with sliding scale fees.

A county clinic at 260 E. 15th St., Merced, provides immunizations, exams and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, HIV testing and counseling and tuberculosis services. Call 381-1023 for hours and services.

A county clinic at 415 F St. in Los Banos provides similar services. Call 710-6085.

The county's medically indigent adult program is handled by Mercy Medical Center Merced.
