Question of the Week: What’s your early pick for song of the summer?

Haley Smith, senior, Johansen High School

Earlier in the year, I felt that “Happy,” by Pharell, was poised to be the song of the summer. It had all the components necessary for this honor. It was catchy, had easy-to-memorize lyrics and, more important than anything else, was upbeat. Sadly, however, due to it being overplayed, this song has become annoying to most teens and has fallen into the same category as Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” It’s the song that everybody loves to hate. With that in mind, I have to be honest, I’m not sure if there is really a summer anthem yet. However, if I could choose what the song of the summer could be, it would have to be either “Wild Card” or “Story Line,” from Hunter Hayes’ new album. Also, I think it could be “Don’t Stop,” by 5 Seconds of Summer. I mean the summer vibe is even in their name!

“Problem,” by Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea. I think it’s going to be something on the scale of “Call Me Maybe,” where it’s really popular for a little while but then it kind of fades.

Dominique Germann, sophomore, Modesto Junior College

My sources say “Fancy” (by Iggy Azalea).

Gabriella Germann, junior, Central Valley High School

I don’t really listen to the radio, but “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea is pretty big. “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry is popular right now, but I don’t know if it will stay so for the rest of the summer months.

Taylor Menezes, graduate, Central Catholic High School

“Summer Nights,” by Rascal Flatts, and “Like We Ain’t Ever,” by Luke Bryan
