"I would have to say eating oranges. I love oranges, but -- unlike most of the other food I love -- they are available only for a season. Not only do they taste great, but their amazing scent stays on your hands for hours after the last section is gone. My second choice would be spending time in the rain. It isn't important what I am doing as long as I am not wearing a raincoat and it is raining."
Tim Day, Sophomore, Modesto High School
"Snow. Snow angels. Sledding. Snow watching. Snow falling. Snowmen. Snow forts. Snowballs. Snow fights! There's nothing else I like to do as much as being in the snow during the winter."
Tyler Robertson, Sophomore, Modesto High School
"I'd have to say that winter running is one of my favorite activities. It's a lot of fun because of the changing weather and the chance to run in cool temperatures you don't have the rest of the year. And with friends, it makes it even better."
James McIntyre, 8th Grade, Oakdale Junior High School
"Well, this year, my family went to Yosemite and we had lots of fun having snowball fights and all the usual stuff, but one thing that I liked was the ice skating that we did. So I took a few spills (at least two), but I definitely had a lot of fun. The ice-skating rink is open all day, except when it has to be 're-Zambonied.' I can't wait to do this again next year!"
Emily Shrader, Sophomore, Enochs High School
"Does wrapping up in a warm blanket and drinking hot chocolate count as an activity? I have always loved the snow, so any chance I get to go to Dodge Ridge and ski or just make a snowman is one I won't pass up!"Sasha Riddle, Junior, Beyer High School
"My favorite winter activity would absolutely positively be snuggling with my best friends! I guess it probably only makes sense if you know me really well ... but the truth is, no matter how much I love snowboarding, or any other winter activities, nothing beats lying around with your best friends. Though cuddling under the covers on a cloudy day while reading a good book is pretty pleasant, too!"
Ryan Koehn, Sophomore, Downey High School
"My favorite winter activity would definitely be skiing. Every winter, I go up to Northstar by Lake Tahoe and ski for as long as possible. The place is best when there's fresh powder, and the mountain's huge, so there are tons of different trails to take."
Victoria Pardini, Sophomore, Modesto High School
"It's pretty hard to answer this, mainly because it's hard to distinguish the temperate Modesto winters from the rest of the year. However, I do really love winter, because it's a time to celebrate the holidays, hang out with friends, curl up with a good book and enjoy festive treats that come along only once a year. Perhaps my personal favorite winter activity, as conceited as it sounds, is the celebration of my birthday in February, although it is sometimes overshadowed by most people's favorite winter activity -- watching the Super Bowl."
E.J. Plata, Senior, Archway Academy
"Winter ... tis my favorite season. Mainly because of the rain. I love the rain. I love the sound it makes, like static, when it hits the rooftops and the pavement. I love the smell of the water, it's so fresh to me. I love how it washes everything clean. I remember as a kid, being sad because the things I drew with sidewalk chalk were washed away. It was all better when the rainbow came, almost like a new beginning. I haven't done it much lately, but now that I am older, I enjoy sitting on the front porch and simply watching and listening to the drops fall. It does something special for me. I guess really what it comes down to, is that it reminds me that this world is very, very real."
