• AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE
NEEDED: Through Sept. 14. Volunteers, ages 16 and older, are needed to register walkers and teams; assist with the sales and set-up of luminaries for the evening luminary ceremony honoring cancer victims; and help with other activities during the event and with cleanup at the conclusion of the event at all sites. Relay for Life brings together more than 3.5 million people to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer; remember loved ones lost to the disease; and fight back against cancer. The 24-hour relay dates include June 21-22, Escalon, Riverbank; Sept. 13-14, Atwater. Teams also are invited to sign up, gather pledges and participate to raise money for the fight against cancer.UNITED WAY OF STANISLAUS COUNTY
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older are invited to take part in United Way’s first ever Day of Action event on June 21. The Day of Action mobilizes people to “Live United” in a simple way by lending a hand to a local nonprofit agency for a few hours between 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., with a barbecue thank you lunch at noon at Graceada Park in Modesto. Participants will be assigned to a local nonprofit agency, will receive and free event t-shirt and be required to sign a hold harmless agreement. Spaces are limited.

• COMMUNITY HOSPICE & HOSPICE OF SAN JOAQUIN
NEEDED: Volunteers 16 and older to assist with 13th annual Truckin’ for Hospice Motorcycle & Car Rally on June 21. Volunteers needed to clean up (tear-down of tables, chairs, tents, etc.) at 2:30 p.m. Presented by the California Trucking Association, this motorcycle/car rally/antique and working truck show starts at Dell’Osso Family Farm, Lathrop, and travels through the Mother Lode with stops along the 135-mile ride for refreshments, poker hands and a chance to win prizes. It concludes with a barbecue, live music and raffle in Manteca. Per person rider fee $40. Truck show entrance fees are $50 after. Fee includes a commemorative T-shirt, run pin, poker hand, food and drink. Bikers, car enthusiasts and truckers are invited to raise funds for Community Hospice and Hospice of San Joaquin. Individuals and businesses are also invited to become sponsors.
• SOCIETY FOR DISABILITIES DAY ON THE FARM
NEEDED: Volunteers 14 and older needed on June 21 to assist and encourage children and serve as “buddies” with the various activities throughout the farm. The event introduces children with disabilities (and kids at heart) to activities typically seen on a working farm, including horseback riding, hayrides, planting in the garden, arts and crafts, a petting zoo and a barbecue to celebrate the day of fun and adventure. Additional help is needed at each of the activity stations. Volunteers will receive an orientation from 9 to 10 a.m., help with setup, interact with their buddies from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and assist with cleanup. Experience working around farm animals is helpful but not necessary. All volunteers must complete an application, and volunteers over age 18 must pass a background check. Program takes place at the Jim & Patti Sanchez Farms in Oakdale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ongoing volunteer positions
• CENTER FOR HUMAN SERVICES HARVESTING FUTURES
NEEDED: Volunteers 12 and older to be active in their community over the summer by helping reduce the amount of wasted fruit and increase access of fresh produce to low-income families in our area through gleaning. Individuals or groups are needed to help pick fruit at harvest events in the mornings from 9 a.m.-noon weekdays or Saturdays to be scheduled throughout the summer months.
PARENT RESOURCE CENTER
NEEDED: Volunteers, ages 14 years and older, on an ongoing basis to assist with child-care supervision and participating in fun, creative activities with the children while parents are attending class on site. Play games, sing songs and help children increase their developmental skills. Volunteers need to commit to two hours per week. Volunteers must have a current TB clearance and a background check for individuals 18 years and older.
• UNITED WAY OF STANISLAUS COUNTY
NEEDED: College students to volunteer as outreach and education specialists, whose tasks will be to raise college students’ awareness of California’s new health exchange, Covered California. Working alongside United Way staff, volunteers will assist in planning outreach activities, attend community events and conduct presentations. Volunteers must pass a background check, pass the outreach and education training with an 80 percent or higher grade, be reliable and on time, have reliable transportation, be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and must be able to be outside in hot and cold environments. Stipends are available.SUTTER GOULD MEDICAL FOUNDATION
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older and junior volunteers 16 years and older with customer service skills to serve as greeters, help with our coffee cart and various tasks. All volunteers should have excellent people skills; enjoy interaction with patients, and be a self-starter. Bilingual ability is a plus, but not required. There are many opportunities in various areas such as pediatrics, Briggsmore specialty and oncology. Volunteer hours are Monday thru Friday, flexible schedule from 7:30-4:30 p.m. Applications can be picked up at the Information Desk at 600 Coffee Road from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. Adult applicants will need TB and background clearance and junior applicants will need a TB clearance.
