“Glee” stars Blake Jenner, Melissa Benoist and Alex Newell are coming to Modesto for a special “One Night Only” show hosted by Modesto native and Hollywood casting director Robert Ulrich. The event is a fundraiser for Jenner’s and Benoist’s independent film, “Billy Boy.” The concert will be a mix of song, dance, comedy and skits.
Almond Blossom Festival
In the Central Valley the first sign of spring isn’t the arrival of the robin, but the return of the Almond Blossom Festival. The 52nd annual event kicks off today and runs through Sunday in Ripon. Festivities include a parade starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Fun Run, Diaper Derby, art show and carnival throughout.
“A Winter Night’s Yeow”
“A Winter Night’s Yeow” returns for a special show in honor of the late Ron DeLacy, who had produced the popular shows for many years. The event, which was a touring favorite for more than a decade, features multiple bands performing music and comedy. Playing will be yodeling cowboy and frequent Yeow headliner Sourdough Slim, La Grange folk trio Faux Renwah, comic duo Old Soles and DeLacy’s former Doodoo Wah partner Dave Cavanagh.
“One Night of Queen”
After selling out a show at the Gallo Center three years ago, the Queen tribute act returns, bringing the hits of the glam rock pioneers back to Modesto. “One Night of Queen” is performed by Gary Mullen and The Works. In 2000, Mullens won a televised British talent show for impersonators with his performance as legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. The touring show faithfully reproduces Queen hits like “We Will Rock You,” “We Are the Champions” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
“The Passing Zone”
The comedic juggling duo of Jon Wee and Owen Morse toss out the show “The Passing Zone: Gravity Attacks.” The men first joined forces in 1986 and have since opened for the likes of Bill Cosby, Bob Newhart and Penn & Teller, and have appeared on shows including “The Tonight Show,” “Comic Strip Live” and “An Evening at the Improv.” Their show has them juggling everything from chainsaws to torches.
“Spirit of the Marathon II”
The Surgical Artistry Modesto Marathon hosts the Central Valley premiere of “Spirit of the Marathon II.” The sequel to the award-winning documentary “Spirit of the Marathon” follows seven athletes as they run the Rome Marathon. Veteran marathoner Julie Weiss, one of the film’s featured runners, and producer Gwendolen Twist will be on hand to meet attendees and conduct a question-and-answer session after the film at the State Theatre. The event also includes food, wine, silent auctions and prize drawings.
