Gifts, decor and more as holiday craft fairs pop up across the region

So, we all know what season has quickly descended upon us, yes? That’s right, browsing season.

Thanks to a bounty of holiday craft fairs and boutiques across the greater Modesto region, this time of year has become a browser’s paradise and a chance to stock up on decorations, gifts and food goods for the fast-coming Christmas extravaganza of parties, celebrations and good cheer.

Several events are being held today and Sunday, with more planned in the region – large and small – through early December; here’s a look at some:

GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH CRAFT FAIRE – Through today. Hand-crafted decorations, apparel and food. 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 640 Minaret Ave., Turlock. (209) 667-7712.

HOLIDAY CRAFT FAIR & BOUTIQUE – Today. Holiday shopping, variety of items from crafts to antiques. Lunch and baked goods available to purchase. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The Well Community Church, 2500 Claus Road, Modesto. Free.

CRAFTERS FOR A CAUSE – Today. Bake sale and craft fair. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mill Creek Church, 147 Auto Center Court, Modesto. Free. (209) 262-8064.

CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL – Today-Sunday. Christmas festival featuring food, book nook, baskets filled with items, jewelry, Christmas decor and more. 9 a.m.-7 p.m. today; 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday. St. Patrick’s Church, 127 Jackson St., Sonora.

COUNTRY FOLK ART SHOW – Today-Sunday. 30th anniversary of Country Folk Art Craft Show featuring an array of unique decorating needs, music and gourmet delights. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Stanislaus County Fairground, 900 N. Broadway, Turlock. $5. (209) 668-8861.

CRAFT FAIR – Today-Sunday. Y.L.I. of St. Mary’s Parish in Oakdale’s eighth annual craft fair featuring local artisans and commercial vendors. Bake sale and food booth. SONORA CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL – Nov. 29-Dec. 1. Annual holiday festival featuring 150 craft and artist booths, live entertainment, kids activities including Polar Express Train and a play area, food, desserts and seasonal drinks, street performers. COWBOY CHRISTMAS – Nov. 29-30. The Oakdale Cowboy Museum is celebrating its 21st annual Cowboy Christmas Gift and Craft show. More than 40 exhibitor booths with western art, furniture, jewelry, cowboy grub and entertainment. Cowboy Santa arrives on horseback, 11 a.m. and pictures with Santa available until 3 p.m. Fair is 5-9 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Gene Bianchi Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave., Oakdale. ANNUAL CRAFT FAIR – Dec. 6. Oak Valley Hospital volunteers are sponsoring annual craft fair. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oak Valley Medical Plaza, 1525 West H St., Oakdale.

DICKENS FAIRE – Dec. 7. Venture back to the Victorian era inside and outside the McHenry Mansion, which will be decorated in Christmas splendor.
