Volunteers needed for ongoing positions:
CENTRAL CALIFORNIA ART ASSOCIATION
NEEDED: Volunteers 21 and older are needed to be trained as Mistlin Gallery docents. A volunteer docent works three- to four-hour shifts twice a month, Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Mistlin Gallery, 1015 J St., Modesto. Docents handle sales, greet the public and do light chores. An interview and nine to 12 training hours are required. Hospitality volunteers 18 and older also are needed for special events. Volunteers set up, serve and clean up refreshments and greet visitors for the Third Thursday Art Walk from 5 to 9 p.m. Special-event volunteers are needed to help with Art in the Garden, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 28.

FRIENDS OF THE MODESTO LIBRARY
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older are needed to assist in the Little Shop. No experience is necessary. Shifts are three hours each, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 1 to 4 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and Saturdays. Each volunteer can pick how often and when they would like to come in. Sales associate volunteers are required to open and close the store, operate a cash register and interact with customers. The volunteer position has many benefits including supporting the Modesto library, gaining beneficial work experience and getting involved in the community. The Little Shop is a small gift shop, run entirely by volunteers, that sells donated books; school and office supplies; artwork from local artists; and many other items. The proceeds help support the Friends’ library projects.

PARENT RESOURCE CENTER
NEEDED: Nurturing volunteers, ages 14 and older, are needed on an ongoing basis to assist with child care supervision participating in fun, creative activities with children while parents are attending class onsite. Play games, sing songs and help children increase their developmental skills. Volunteers need to commit to two hours per week. Volunteers must have a current TB clearance and a background check for those 18 years and older.

SUTTER GOULD MEDICAL FOUNDATION
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older and junior volunteers 16 and older with customer service skills are needed to serve as greeters, help with the coffee cart and perform other tasks. All volunteers should have excellent people skills, enjoy interaction with patients and be a self-starter. Bilingual ability is a plus, but not required. There are many opportunities in various areas such as pediatrics, Briggsmore specialty and oncology. Volunteer hours are Monday through Friday, with flexible schedules from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Applications can be picked up at the information desk at 600 Coffee Road from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Adult applicants will need TB and background clearance, and junior applicants will need a TB clearance.

STANISLAUS COUNTY HEALTH SERVICES AGENCY
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older are needed to greet visitors of the HSA Gift Shop, provide customer service, sell merchandise, wrap gifts as requested and perform general store cleaning. Requires a one-year commitment of one day per week. Gift Shop hours are 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Volunteers must pass a background check and drug screening. Training is provided. All proceeds of the Gift Shop are donated to the Health Services Agency for medical equipment purchases, scholarships and programs such as Adopt-A-Family.

UNITED WAY OF STANISLAUS COUNTY
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older are needed to participate in a statewide effort to raise public awareness on California’s new Health Exchange called Covered CA. Covered CA is a marketplace in which individuals, families and small businesses can find affordable health insurance. Outreach and education efforts will be conducted in Stanislaus County, focusing on the uninsured, underinsured, seasonal workers and the young adult population. Locations vary. Volunteers can schedule participation according to availability. All volunteers must be scheduled for an interview, pass a background check, complete the Outreach and Education Training and pass the associated exam in order to be a certified outreach and education specialist. Volunteers must have reliable transportation.
