CENTER FOR HUMAN SERVICES
NEEDED: Volunteers ages 13 to 17 are needed to serve as defense and prosecution attorneys, jury members, bailiffs and court clerks. The Youth Court process offers first-time juvenile defendants who have admitted responsibility for their offense an opportunity to have their case heard by a jury of their peers with an adult volunteer judge experienced in juvenile law presiding. Adult volunteers 18 and older, who are knowledgeable of the law, are needed to act as judges to preside over the court and serve as mentors to assist volunteer attorneys with trial preparation. The court sessions usually are held during the evening bimonthly on Wednesdays in Modesto and on the third Tuesday in Oakdale.

CENTRAL CALIFORNIA ART ASSOCIATION
NEEDED: Volunteers 21 and older are needed to be trained as Mistlin Gallery docents. A volunteer docent works three- to four-hour shifts twice a month, Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday noon to 4 p.m. at the Mistlin Gallery, 1015 J St., Modesto. Docents handle sales, greet the public and do light chores. An interview and nine to 12 training hours are required. Hospitality volunteers 18 and older also are needed for special events. Volunteers set up, serve and clean up refreshments and greet visitors for Third Thursday Art Walk from 5 to 9 p.m. Special event volunteers are needed to help with Art in the Garden, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

FRIENDS OF THE MODESTO LIBRARY
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older are needed to assist in The Little Shop. No experience is necessary. Shifts are three hours each, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and Saturdays. Each volunteer can pick how often and when they would like to come in. Sales associate volunteers are required to open and close the store, operate a cash register and interact with customers. There are many benefits of this volunteer position, including supporting the Modesto library, gaining beneficial work experience and getting involved in the community. The Little Shop is a small gift shop, run entirely by volunteers, that sells donated books; school and office supplies; artwork from local artists; and many other items. The proceeds help to support the Friends’ library projects.

NEEDED: Volunteers 16 and older are needed to help provide food and clothing to needy individuals and families on weekdays. Warehouse volunteers pick up, receive, sort and distribute food to clients; food pantry volunteers interview clients, offer support and referrals, bag grocery orders and stock shelves; and clothes closet volunteers sort clothing and assist in the community clothes closet. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. depending on the position. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, or 16 to 17 years with parental permission, and be able to lift at least 25 to 40 pounds depending on the position.

PARENT RESOURCE CENTER
NEEDED: Nurturing volunteers, ages 14 and older, are needed on an ongoing basis to assist with child care supervision participating in fun, creative activities with children while parents are attending class onsite. Play games, sing songs and help children increase their developmental skills. Volunteers need to commit to two hours per week. Volunteers must have a current TB clearance and a background check for those 18 years and older.

SUTTER GOULD MEDICAL FOUNDATION
NEEDED: Volunteers 18 and older and junior volunteers 16 and older with customer service skills are needed to serve as greeters, help with the coffee cart and perform other tasks. All volunteers should have excellent people skills, enjoy interaction with patients and be a self-starter. Bilingual ability is a plus, but not required. There are many opportunities in various areas such as pediatrics, Briggsmore specialty and oncology. Volunteer hours are Monday through Friday, with flexible schedules from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Applications can be picked up at the information desk at 600 Coffee Road from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Adult applicants will need TB and background clearance, and junior applicants will need a TB clearance.
