SACRAMENTO -- Celebrate history, the arts, government, wildlife, science and culture at the 11th annual Sacramento Museum Day.
This one-day event, with 26 sites offering free admission, attracts more than 50,000 people.
Among those participating will be the former McClellan Air Force Base, Fairytale Town, Governor's Mansion State Historic Park, the Museum of Medical History and the Sacramento Zoo.
Another highlight is the Sojourner Truth Multicultural Arts Museum, named for the celebrated abolitionist and women's rights activist. The museum is dedicated to bringing African, Asian, Hispanic and American Indian art to the public arena under one roof.
The Sacramento Association of Museums suggests visiting two or three museums to give ample time to see the exhibits and allow for travel time.
The California Museum, at 10th and
O streets, will serve as a central transfer station point for five shuttle routes between museums. On board the shuttles, tour guides will be available to offer assistance and narration.
For those who wish to travel the routes by car, the Sacramento Association of Museums offers a map on its Web site (www.sacmuseums.org) that can be downloaded.
