Crème brulée and madeleine cookies are the subject of a cooking class in August led by Annie Thu Henrich.

The hands-on baking class will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at Direct Appliance in Modesto.

Cost is $40 per person. Sign up in person or mail a check directly to Direct Appliance, attention Amy or Colleen, 2424 McHenry Ave., Modesto 95350.

A few spaces also remain in Henrich's apple pie class, from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. July 18, also at Direct Appliance. Cost for that class is $40.
