WORLD RHYTHMS

Raised in Portugal, Sara Tavares — who was born to parents of Cape Verdian descent and grew up in Portugal — performs her music at 7:30 p.m. today at the Turlock Community Theatre, 1574 E. Canal Drive.

She began as a singer and composer of gospel, funk and soul, but has expanded her music to include the dance rhythms of Cape Verde, Angola, Brazil and American R&B. Tickets are $25-$39. Call 668-1169.

JETHRO TULL FRONTMAN

Ian Anderson, the flute-playing leader of rock band Jethro Tull, plays with his own band Sunday at the Gallo Center for the Arts, 1000 I St., Modesto.

He will be joined by guests from jazz, classical, rock and world music for his eclectic acoustic tour. The group will perform new works as well as old songs from the Jethro Tull back catalog.
