The Patterson Garden Club is having a busy month.
On Nov. 11 at 9 a.m., the club is sponsoring a Blue Star Memorial Dedication at the Hammon Senior Center, 1033 West Las Palmas Ave., Patterson. The Blue Star Memorial Program began in 1944 as a living memorial to veterans of World War II and honors men and women who are serving our country in military service. The Blue Star Memorial bears the words "A tribute to the Armed Forces of America," and may not bear an individual's name.
The Blue Star became an icon in World War II and was seen on flags and banners in homes, churches, and businesses for sons and daughters at war. The program was adopted by National Garden Clubs, Inc., in 1945.
On Nov. 19, the club will hold its monthly meeting. Because of Thanksgiving, the meeting is being held on the third Thursday of the month, at 9 a.m. This month's meeting will be held at the Hammon Senior Center.
The program will be "Flower Arranging for the Holidays" by Patterson's own local florist, Blues Flowers. Refreshments will be served and guests are welcome. Patterson Garden Club Cookbooks are for sale for $10. For more information, call Barbara Coelho at 892-6888.
