The Modesto Garden Club’s pick for the July Garden of the Month is that of Deanna Clark, 509 Bruce Ave. (See accompanying photos)

“I have lived in my home for 40 years,” Clark told the club. “While raising my two sons, my gardening during those years consisted of two six-packs of petunias in the spring, and occasionally a geranium. I joined the Modesto Garden Club in 1998, but did not become active until I retired from E.&J. Gallo Winery in 2003. ...

"I have learned all that I know about gardening from my association with Modesto Garden Club and the friends that I have met. The club has excellent educational speakers at the meetings. I have learned so much while helping with the planting of the downtown pots and the hanging baskets. We have so many lovely private garden tours along with our Annual Spring Garden Tour. These tours are very educational and a good way to pick up more ideas.

"My favorite flowers are petunias, impatiens and roses. I love white in the garden, but also adding some pinks and blues make for a more colorful garden. I have a multi-trunk crape myrtle in my front yard — it has beautiful color in the month of July.”
