The Stanislaus County Office of Education Child/Family Services Division's Child Care Resource and Referral Program has three child care workshops set for March: "Setting the Stage for Competence," "Traveling Tales" and "An Evening With Licensing."

In "Setting the Stage for Competence," a March 7 program also offered in Spanish, participants will learn specific strategies, using the environment and adult/child interactions to facilitate friendship and build community. It is open to family child care providers, child care center employees, exempt providers and community members. The program is from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the trainer is from the UC Davis Extension's Center for Excellence in Child Development.

In "Traveling Tales," Susan Cassidy, a children's librarian with the county library, will teach techniques for presenting stories and keeping children's attention during story time. She also will share information on the Traveling Tales program. The March 14 training, open to family child care providers, child care center employees, exempt providers and community members, is from 9 a.m. to noon.

"An Evening With Licensing" will allow child care providers and child care center employees an opportunity to discuss licensing issues with a Department of Social Services community care licensing analyst assigned to Stanislaus County. It is March 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.

All programs are in the DeArmond Administration Center, 1324 Celeste Drive, Modesto. For more information or to register, call 238-6300 or go online to www.stancoe.org/ cfs/registrations/ccrr/index.htm.

The Stanislaus Family Child Care Association has a membership meeting March 11 at 1100 H St., Modesto. For more information, call Pam Reeder 544-9225
