THE OWNER: Marshall Lewis of Empire
THE CAR: 1931 Ford slant window deluxe sedan
WHAT SPARKED THE INTEREST: It's a very comfortable car and has lots of room for luggage and two passengers.
ROAD TO OWNERSHIP: After a trip to Toronto, Canada, in a Roadster, my wife informed me the next trip to Kansas City would be in a closed car. Through word-of-mouth, I found my 1931 Ford in Riverbank in 1997. It had been disassembled for many years.
UNDER THE HOOD: Original motor with high-performance equipment of the 1930s and '40s, such as an overhead valve conversion, dual carburetion conversion and exhaust header conversion. Plus some modern equipment like air conditioning.
BODY OF WORK: The body was removed from the frame and completely restored. I sandblasted, painted and upholstered it.
A FAVORITE MEMORY: Driving on the Texas Motor Speedway after a world meet of the Model A Ford Club of America in Dallas this past July. My friend, Paul Curtis, also drove on the Texas Motor Speedway with me.
