Edgar Sanchez, Junior, Johansen High School

I like the calm and quiet atmosphere. I'm glad I don't live on or near a busy street or where gangs and drugs are a problem. I'd rate this place an 8 out of 10, despite living in southeast Modesto.

Emily Kay Shrader, Senior, Enochs High School

I live in a little gated community called Siena. The best part about my neighborhood is that everyone waves to each other, whether they know each other or not. It makes me smile to always be acknowledged whenever I leave or am coming back home. Plus, my grandparents live right around the corner! Free cookies from Granny whenever I want!

•  •  •

Rachel Crowley, Junior, Ripon High School

Like most of Ripon, the Meritage Homes subdivision is a pretty and quiet place to live. I'm somewhat oblivious when it comes to my neighbors and such, though I absolutely love the almond orchard and horse ranch across the street. The quiet is nice when one likes to head outside to sit by the pool and read or write or just watch some of the trees.

•  •  •

Keaton Crowder, freshman, Hughson High School

I like that my neighborhood is small and friendly. I live in Hughson near the baseball field named Lee Bright. Most people say hello as you pass by, and you are never too far away to walk to a friend's house, or to one of the parks to have fun on the weekends. Plus, it is fairly well lit at night -- good for running!

•  •  •

Breiana Theodore, Senior, Big Valley Christian High School

I like how my neighborhood is so relaxed. Everyone kind of keeps to themselves, but when special days come up, like July Fourth, everyone bonds like a family.

•  •  •

Rebecca Mears, Junior, Modesto High School

The best thing about Village 1 is that it is a relatively new area, so new stores are continually popping up just down the street. A few years ago, there was nothing exciting about my neighborhood, but now I can walk down to Raley's, Walgreens, Mountain Mike's, or Juice It Up to grab a quick bite and hang out with my friends. Still, all the new shops don't exactly make up for the fact that it takes 20 to 30 minutes to get from my house in Village 1 to Modesto High each and every morning.

•  •  •

Kevin Davidson, Junior, Beyer High School

Well, I guess what's most appealing about my neighborhood is the calm atmosphere. At times, the hustle and bustle of more urban locations are more desirable, but it is always nice to have the relaxing, stable location for comfort.

•  •  •

Maggie White, Freshman, Valley Charter High School

I live in north-central Modesto and I like it because it is within walking distance of a lot of fun hangout places, such as a park and several stores. Also, one of my best friends lives nearby, so what's not to love?

Amelia Varni, Senior, Central Catholic High School

One of the greatest things about living in the country is that my closest neighbor lives a mile away. The air is clean and the stars are beautiful out in the middle of nowhere. My "neighborhood" consists of walnut and almond trees, chickens, cows, lizards, coyotes, and toads. I can be as loud as I want, and nobody ever parks their motor home in my driveway!
