Hilmar 14-year-old earns Eagle award

Anthony Sarment, a 14-year-old eighth-grader at Hilmar Middle School, recently became an Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded by the Boy Scouts of America. Anthony, a member of Troop 21 of Turlock, joined the Scouts three years ago. His troop is sponsored by American Legion Rex Ish 88.

For his Eagle project, Anthony refinished the play equipment at Turlock Children's Play Park in Donnelly Park. It took a work crew of 35 people and a total of 127½ man-hours to complete the project.

Anthony's guardians/grandparents are Lanny and Nancy Sarment of Turlock.

His father is Steven Sarment of Modesto and his mother is Ellen Wallen of Turlock.
