What, the economy isn't scary enough for you?

Intrepid adrenaline junkies still can find plenty of scares (outside of opening their financial statements) at parties, benefits and festivals across the Central Valley this Halloween.

Fright Factory 2008: Third annual house of horrors brings the scares. (Teenagers OK, not recommended for children.) 7-10 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday, 6-11 p.m. Friday. Outside Vintage Faire Mall, along Sisk Road, Modesto. $13 general, $18 fast pass. www.itsscary.com.

Halloween Party & Monster Film Mash: Enjoy a costume contest, a Transylvania Twist dance-off, organ concert and a screening of the frightful features "Frankenweenie" (a short film by Tim Burton), sci-fi comedy "Mars Attacks!" and the 1956 sci-fi horror classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."
