The League of Women Voters of Merced County on Wednesday will hold a candidates forum for Atwater mayor and City Council on Wednesday at the Atwater City Council chamber, 750 Bellevue Road. The mayoral candidates will be questioned from 6 to 7 p.m., and council candidates from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Candidates will answer questions submitted in advance electronically to LWVMercedCo@ gmail.com or to Facebook ( facebook.com/lwvmercedco) and from those submitted in writing at the forums. All questions will be screened.
Celebrate parks at McConnell
The East Merced Resource Conservation District and the state Department of Parks and Recreation plan a day of fun and education from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at McConnell state park, 8810 McConnell Road. Merced High’s Class of 1954 will hold its reunion at 11 a.m. Oct. 4 at Gateway Gardens, West 18th and M streets in Merced. The lunch menu includes broiled tri-tip in burgundy sauce, chicken cordon bleu and champagne salmon. Cost is $25. Hall of fame banquet
Tickets are on sale for the third annual Blue Devil Hall of Fame induction ceremony and banquet at Merced College on Oct. 11. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the gymnasium of the 3600 M St. campus. Tickets are $50 per person, or $500 for a sponsored table of eight.
