State fire investigators on Thursday said a juvenile has been identified as a suspect in 13 arson incidents over the last “several months” in the Oakhurst area of Madera County.
“The juvenile is not responsible for starting the active Courtney fire, which has been burning since Sunday,” the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said in a news release.
Cal Fire said a separate suspect has been identified in the Courtney fire, but did not elaborate Thursday.
Cal Fire spokesman Bernie Quinn said many details of the investigation could not be released, including the age and gender of the suspect, and whether that person has been arrested. Quinn also declined to say which fires investigators believe the juvenile may responsible for setting.
Quinn said the investigation remains open. He also declined to say whether there are any other suspects involved in the case. Cal Fire did say the juvenile is not a suspect in the Junction fire.
The case will also be referred to the District Attorney’s Office for appropriate action, Cal Fire said in the statement. Cal Fire is working on the case with the U.S. Forest Service.
