SPCA adoption event
The Merced Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will hold an adoption event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13 at Armstrong’s Pet World, 2941 G St. There will be animals to adopt and information on volunteer and membership opportunities with the Merced SPCA.
Youth soccer challenge
Boys and girls ages 9 to 14 from Merced, Planada, Le Grand, Chowchilla and Mariposa are invited to participate in the Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge. The competition is Sept. 13 at Planada Elementary School, 9525 E. Brodrick St. Preregistration begins at 9 a.m. and the event starts at 11. Center’s 20th anniversary
The Merced Senior Community Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 13. The activity-filled celebration will be open to the public. The center is at 755 W. 15th St.

Crime Stoppers fundraiser
Merced Area Crime Stoppers will have a fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sept. 27 at Applebee’s restaurant, 1734 W. Tea party meeting
The Merced-Atwater Tea Party meeting will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, Fifth Street and Broadway Avenue. Barbara Levey, Merced County registrar of voters, will speak about the election process, and there will be a candidates forum for Atwater mayor and City Council seats up for election in November. All candidates are expected to participate.
Merced Elks golf tournament
The Merced Elks Lodge will hold a charity golf tournament Sept. 27 at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course, 5250 Green Sands Ave. Check-in at 11:30 a.m, lunch at noon and shotgun start at 1 p.m. There will be a raffle, team prizes and closest-to-the-hole prizes. $75 price includes green fees, cart and lunch. Day of Prayer for Peace
The United Methodist Church of Merced will host a Day of Prayer for Peace at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in the courtyard of the church, 899 Yosemite Park Way (use the Laurel Street entrance). The international observance is an opportunity for people of faithto pray and act together to nurture lasting peace in the hearts of people.
