UPDATE: 6:55 a.m. Thursday -- The woman found Tuesday afternoon in Bear Creek has been identified as Gina Salvadori, 48, according to the Merced County Coroner's office. Salvadori's autopsy is scheduled to be performed today.
Salvadori was found about 5 p.m. Tuesday by a passer-by. Police said Salvadori’s body likely entered the water within 24 hours of discovery. Skinner said details are still preliminary, and an autopsy has been scheduled for today.
After Salvadori was pulled from the water Tuesday, police said they observed no obvious signs of trauma. It’s unknown whether the death was accidental.
A cyclist was traveling along the bike path when he spotted the body. He wasn’t sure what it was until he took a closer look, then flagged two teenagers nearby, who said it was a body floating facedown in the creek. The Merced County Sheriff’s Department dive team was called to the scene and the body was removed from the water about 6:30 p.m. Detectives canvassed the area after finding the body.
