With this year ending and another ahead of us, here’s to more New Year’s resolutions. Popular resolutions are to lose weight, eat healthful, start exercising and quit smoking. They are definitely fun to make, but hard to keep for most of us.
Here are some tips to a smart new year:
Specific. Being specific increases the chances of your goal being accomplished. Instead of, “I want to lose weight,” be specific about your weight goal. “I want to lose 15 pounds by Dec. 31, 2014.”
Measurable. How much? How many? It is important to measure your progress so that you know when you have attained your goal.
Attainable. Make sure your goal is not beyond your reach. If you haven’t exercised for a while, maybe walking twice a week for 10 minutes is a start, instead of five days a week. Plan ahead and find time in your schedule to fit in your game plan.
Realistic. Is this your personal goal, or did someone else make it for you? Chances are if it’s something you want, you will try to work harder to make it happen.
Timely. Anchor it with a time frame to provide a sense of urgency.
