The third man suspected in a 2011 robbery and shooting of a Modesto cigarette store clerk has been arrested.
Josue Pulido, 22, was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on Thursday on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery, conspiracy and arson in connection with a robbery at Wally’s Discount Cigarettes, said Modesto police Sgt. Rick Applegate.
Three men entered the store on Coffee Road in late August 2011. One of them took cigarettes and money from the cash register. As the suspects were leaving, one of them who had been standing by the door with a gun turned around and shot a 20-year-old store clerk, according to reports at the time of the incident.
The victim was hospitalized in critical condition but survived the attack.
Applegate said the arson charge against Pulido stems from a stolen car he allegedly burned after the robbery and shooting.
The suspected gunman, Kenneth Akeem Brooks, 23, was arrested days after the incident, and another suspect, Luis Cabrera, 20, was arrested several months later in San Diego.
Pulido was arrested in Alameda County on a warrant for the crime but extradited to Stanislaus County on Thursday.
Cabrera pleaded guilty to robbery in June and was sentenced in August to two years in prison, according to Assistant District Attorney Carol Shipley. Brooks is scheduled for an arraignment next month, and charges against Pulido are expected to be filed Monday, she said.
