Two men suspected of stealing narcotics from a pharmaceutical courier company were arrested in Modesto this week with the help of private investigation and security companies.
Pinkerton: Corporate Risk Management, Security and Safety was hired by the pharmaceutical company BeavEx last month after narcotics were stolen from one of its trucks when the courier went inside Memorial Medical Center to deliver drugs to its pharmacy, according to a Pinkerton employee. He asked not to be named for security reasons.
Two weeks later, two men attempted to rob at gunpoint a BeavEx courier near one of the company’s facilities in Manteca, said BeavEx Senior Director of Administration Theron Garcia.
The suspects were identified because one of them recently applied for a job with BeavEx and even had been on a ride-along with one of the drivers. But he didn’t make it through the hiring process because he started “asking weird questions,” the Pinkerton employee said.
Never miss a local story.
He said Pinkerton investigators started surveillance on the two suspects and on Tuesday saw them leave their home at 6 a.m. with bolt cutters and drive through the Memorial parking lot before going to a nearby residential area, where they covered their license plate with paper dealer plates.
The suspects then went back to Memorial and waited until the BeavEx driver arrived and took his first load of pharmaceuticals inside the hospital.
That’s when one of the suspects went to the back of the truck and cut the lock of the roll-up door on the back of the truck, said Modesto police Lt. Alex Bettis.
“Pinkerton made the first contact with the suspect, and within seconds, the (Modesto) police were there to arrest the individuals,” Garcia said. “It was a great collaboration between Pinkerton, the police and Memorial security. Had they not all worked together, this arrest would not have happened without incident or injury.”
Shane Dhar and Ashneel Kumar Nath were arrested on suspicion of two counts of burglary. The investigation into the attempted armed robbery in Manteca is ongoing.
