The Community Action Agency, a nonprofit, said Carl Valenti was recently named as the new program director for the WIC program in Merced County.
Valenti, who is originally from Philadelphia, has been living in Merced since February. He has been working as a consultant for the past several years, primarily in the medical field, and most recently as part of the transition team for Mercy Hospital during its move to a new location. . Valenti has been an RN for almost 20 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business, a BSN in nursing and will complete his master's degree this spring in legal studies, all from the University of West Virginia.
WIC is a program for women and children who are nutritionally at risk. The program provides nutritional counseling, breastfeeding support, educational classes and food vouchers. This program is operated by Merced County Community Action Agency. WIC has 13 sites throughout Merced County and a staff of 55 people which Valenti will oversee.
One of his first duties will be the centralization of the WIC program which will now be located at the Community Action Agency office on W. Main St. in Merced. “My goal is to build an infrastructure to increase communication and efficiency among our offices,” said Valenti.
