A 19-year-old alleged member of a tagging crew accused of spraying numerous graffiti in Merced and along local highways was arrested Monday after law enforcement officers served a search warrant at his home.
Martin Sanchez was taken into custody after officers searched his home around 10:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Daisy Court, according to Merced Police Detective Allen Adrian.
Adrian was aided in the investigation by CHP Officer Greg Hauser, along with Jason Garcia and Armando Arceo of the Merced County Probation Department.
At the home, officers discovered paint, tools and other evidence linking Sanchez with the moniker used in the graffiti incidents. Adrian said the graffiti was painted at many locations, including on highways, local businesses and fences.
Sanchez was arrested in 2008 for committing acts of graffiti with the same tagging crew.
Sanchez was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of graffiti and possession of graffiti tools, along with a gang enhancement. He's being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
