A 23-year-old Merced man was transported to a regional hospital after being stabbed in the face Saturday night.
The stabbing occurred on the 1000 block of K Street at around 8:53 p.m., according to a news release from the Merced Police Department. When officers arrived at the crime scene, they discovered the victim sitting down on the ground, bleeding from the left side of his face as a result of a large cut.
The victim reported that three Latino men walked up to him while he was standing in an apartment parking lot, and for an unknown reason one of the men allegedly kicked him on his legs and stabbed him in the face with a sharp weapon, according to the release. The men then fled the area in an unknown direction.
Officers checked the vicinity of the crime scene to try to locate the stabber, but were unable to locate him. The weapon used in the stabbing was located at the crime scene covered with blood. The knife was logged into evidence to be processed at the crime laboratory, the release said. Officers are withholding a detailed description of the weapon as the investigation continues.
