DOS PALOS -- Kerman's Christopher Montero saw nothing but blanketed receivers as he bootlegged left.
Spotting at least 15 yards worth of vacant grass in front of him, the Kerman quarterback elected to tuck the ball and run.
At the last moment, Montero glanced back inside to see Dos Palos linebacker Kevin Schofield barreling towards him.
Never miss a local story.
Like he'd just collided with an invisible wall, Montero's forward motion came to an instant halt and his cleats flew into the air.
To add insult injury, Schofield's jarring shot rocked Montero into another hit from behind.
It was that kind of night for the Kerman (3-1) offense.
DP (3-1) held their guests to just 89 total yards in the first half, sacked Montero three times and intercepted a pair of passes in a convincing 28-0 victory on Friday.
"That was just a great group effort against a good football team," DP defensive coordinator Frank Lemos said.
"Kerman has a very diversified offense. They show you a lot of fronts, and our kids responded very well to it."
Field position was Kerman's downfall all night, averaging their own 21-yard line in nine possessions.
With Lemos' defense flying around the ball, the DP offense often had short fields to work with.
That made for a relatively light evening for DP's workhorse Schofield.
The Iron Horse carried 20 times for 119 yards and helped Dos Palos take a 21-0 lead into intermission, sandwiching a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs around an Alex Reeves 29-yard pick six.
Fresh off his four-touchdown performance against Chowchilla, DP quarterback Ryan Yriarte put the game out of reach in the third quarter with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jake Shelly.
"It really was a team effort tonight," Schofield said. "The special teams did a great job pinning them deep.
"The defense kept them there, and the offense scored when we needed it to.
"After a couple really close games, it was nice to get the shutout."
