A 42-year-old woman has been arrested in the Sept. 6 stabbing death of 44-year-old Robert Eugene Blay, Merced police said Monday.
The suspect has been identified as Commie Marina Britt.
Blay was killed at a 314 W. 19th St. rooming house. Police responded after a report of a fight in progress shortly before 2:30 p.m. Blay was flown to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto and later was pronounced dead.
Merced police spokesman Andre Matthews said Britt and Blay had been living together at the residence. Matthews said it's unknown what sparked the argument. The couple had been together for several years.
There's no indication the stabbing was in self-defense. At first, police considered Britt a person of interest. She was finally taken into custody Saturday. "Based on witness statements, officers believe they have the person in custody who did it," Matthews said.
Britt was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of murder. She's being held in lieu of $1 million.
