A Merced Police Department spokesman said Friday there are no new leads in the death of a local elementary school teacher who was found Thursday morning floating in her backyard pool.
The body of Diane Romero had stab wounds. Her husband, Rudy Romero, was found stabbed and in critical condition in the couple's Tioga Court backyard.
An autopsy on Diane Romero, who taught third grade at Peterson Elementary School in Merced for 13 years, was performed Friday to determine the cause of her death, according to the Merced County Sheriff's Department.
Lt. Andre Matthews, the Merced Police Department's spokesman, said Friday that investigators are interviewing neighbors, family members and Diane Romero's husband.
Rudy Romero, who is still in the hospital, is a bus driver for the Merced Union High School District.
While Matthews said the man found with stab wounds near the body of Diane Romero was indeed her husband, he wouldn't say he was Rudy Romero.
Police responded to the scene just after 6 a.m. Thursday after a family member who discovered the bodies called for help.
There are two high school-age sons in the Romero family.
