Free workshops about how a new animal care initiative will affect dairies will be held in October and November.
The workshops will help dairy producers prepare for the National Dairy Farmers Assuring Responsible Management (FARM). Hilmar Cheese Company, along with a number of other dairy cooperatives, recently announced its participation in the program.
The first workshop includes an overview of the program, covering topics such as animal well-being, calf care issues, and care and movement of special-needs animals. The second workshop focuses steps to prepare for an on-farm evaluation and what to expect during an evaluation.
The free workshops are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations are not required.
Workshops will be held at the Stanislaus County Ag Center (Harvest Hall), 3800 Cornucopia Way, Modesto, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 4, and Monday, Oct. 11.
