The Merced County Association of Governments said it will sponsor “The Magic of Recycling,” a show that involves a magician performing magic tricks for students, while at the same time teaching the importance of conserving resources and recycling materials.
Twenty shows will be performed in elementary schools throughout Merced County’s unincorporated areas from September 13 through September 24.
The performance tour is paid for with grant funds allocated to the unincorporated areas of Merced County from the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle), in order to teach children the importance of recycling. MCAG administers the funds. Each performance will bring 45 minutes of magic tricks and skits performed by audience members.
“The shows are able to benefit the students by enhancing environmental curriculum, teaching students the benefits of recycling and saving resources, while keeping them enthusiastic and engaged, and bringing an enriching assembly program to students, “ said Jennifer Halpin, recycling specialist for MCAG. After each show, students and staff will receive materials outlining what is accepted in their curbside recycling containers.
