Lou Souza had no problem expressing how he felt Friday night.
It didn't matter that his Merced baseball team had just scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Los Banos 6-5.
Merced's skipper was boiling mad.
"You remember that line in the movie 'White Man Can't Jump' that sometimes when you win, you really lose." Souza asked. "That's how I feel.
Never miss a local story.
"I'm not going to take away from some great individual performances tonight. But as a team and understanding what that means, we're way out in right field."
Despite the lack of cohesiveness in the dugout, Merced (2-0 Central California Conference, 7-5 overall) was able to pull a win out late.
Matthew Farias, who had crushed a two-run homer earlier in the game, came up with a run-scoring single to tie the game at 5-5 with one out in the seventh.
An infield single by Drake Burch loaded the bases and set the state for Scott Eldridge, who drew a walk to force in the game-winning run.
Eldridge picked up the win in relief for Merced on the mound.
It was the second one-run loss to Merced this week for Los Banos (0-2 CCC).
"We understand where (Souza) is coming from," said Farias, who went 3 for 4 with three RBIs at the plate. "We've got to play more like a team."
Souza wants to see the attitude change right away.
"We have to have respect for each other," he said. "We have to want to do all I can for the guy next to me and we have no concept of that right now.
"We want to win on the scoreboard, but we want to win with class. We didn't show a young guy that came to the game tonight what Merced baseball is all about and that's important to me."
