ATWATER -- Mark delaMotte didn't mind seeing Buhach Colony early on the schedule this year.
The Turlock coach knows its better to face a young team early than later.
"I like that team," delaMotte said. "They're doing things the right way. They're going to be good later this year and next year.
"In the past, I didn't like playing them right away when they had three Division I guys. But, their young guys are going to get good fast."
Never miss a local story.
Experience definitely played a part on Wednesday afternoon.
Turlock built an early four-run lead with clutch two-out hitting.
A five-run seventh inning blew the game open as Turlock opened Central California Conference play with an 11-2 win over BC.
"We didn't do a good job of executing on our two-strike pitches," Buhach Colony coach Wayne Fitzgerald said. "Turlock did and they capitalized on every one of them."
Kevin Kramer, Ryan Cumberland and Vince Wheeland hit three straight two-out doubles in the top of the first inning to give Turlock a 2-0 lead.
Buhach freshman Daulton Jefferies helped his team even up the score with a run-scoring double in the first and an RBI-single in the third.
Turlock answered back when Ryan Brown hit a two-out, two-run double in the top of the fourth inning.
Kramer tacked on a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning for his fourth home run of the season.
"He's been real patient at the plate," delaMotte said. "He knows teams are going to pitch around him so he takes his walks when he has to. When teams do make a mistake, he hits it pretty hard."
Turlock right-hander David Herrera went the distance, with the help of 12 outs via the groundball.
Late in the game, BC's youth showed.
"It's just knowing situational things when we're trying to get runners on base late in the game," Fitzgerald said. "In the fifth and sixth innings we can't make two outs on two pitches.
"But we're learning and I'd like to think we're getting better every day."
