The United States Mint unveiled a quarter Wednesday featuring an image of El Capitan at Yosemite National Park. The quarter is included in the first five coins in the mint's "America the Beautiful Quarters" program.
The first quarter in the series, which features Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, will be released into circulation on April 19. The Yosemite quarter will be released in July. Other coins in the series show Yellowstone National Park, Grand Canyon National Park and Mount Hood National Forest.
The reverse of the Yosemite quarter shows El Capitan, the park's iconic 3,000-foot granite monolith, with the inscription "Yosemite, California, 2010."
The mint plans to include 56 quarters in the America the Beautiful program, releasing new coins each year until the year 2021.
