Jacob Marchini was chosen top speaker in the local Lions Club region contest held at the Boys and Girls Club of Merced, the Le Grand Lions Club said in a news release.
He's a senior at Le Grand High School and will represent Le Grand Lions in the annual state competition. With the win he's headed to South Lake Tahoe for the District 4-A1 Convention and speech contest April 17. The next level is area competition leading to the state finals in June. The Lions Multiple District 4 (California) state winner receives more than $20,000 in scholarship awards. This year's speech topic is "Universal Health Care: How Will It Affect Us?"
