STOCKTON -- Three tickets were punched to the CIF State Championships on Friday.
Golden Valley's Ben Weber (112), Los Banos' Greg Hartman (145) and Buhach Colony's Luis Bojorquez (189) all went 3-0 and are in today's semifinals of the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament.
Weber and Hartman were equally impressive during their quarterfinals, while Bojorquez had to work a little bit harder for his win against Jackson Argonaut's Dhalton Brown.
Weber has a semifinal match against Martin Ramirez of Elk Grove with a trip to the section finals on the line.
Never miss a local story.
"You always dream about going to state -- it's the golden ticket," said Weber, who knocked off Dixon's Chris Guzman to get to the final four. "My goal is to always win a championship.
"If you don't set your goals high you won't reach them."
Hartman, who qualified for the state tournament as a junior, will be making his second trip.
Hartman has a meeting with the No. 1 ranked 145-pounder in the state -- Vacaville's Tyler Johnson -- today in the semifinals.
"(State) was the goal," said Hartman, who went 3-0 and beat Elk Grove's Scott Votino in the quarterfinals. "Feels as good as I thought it would.
"I have (Johnson) today, so I just have to keep working hard. Placing at state is my ultimate goal, and I'm trying to make it a reality."
Bojorquez made state a reality.
BC's junior 189-pounder knocked off a section-ranked opponent in Brown, 5-2, to get to the semis.
Buhach Colony's only other wrestler still alive on Day 2 is Mikey Guzman (125).
Guzman lost his opening-round matchup before reeling off three straight consolation bracket wins. Guzman also put out Turlock's Brandon Egleston, who placed at the state tourney a season ago.
After eliminating Egleston, Guzman knocked out Chris Dollete of Bethel to make it to the fourth round of consolations.
Meng Xiong (103) is the only Merced wrestler still alive on the second day of the Masters.
Xiong avoided elimination twice to get into today's fourth round of consolations.
Los Banos' Kendal Klette (103) is also alive in the fourth round of the consolation bracket.
Los Banos' third wrestler still alive on Day 2 is Jorgie Munoz (119).
Munoz lost his first-round matchup and then won three straight, knocking off Merced's Alfonso Cintora to get to today's matchup against Mark Ocampo of Elk Grove Rodriguez.
