ROSEVILLE -- Need to burn off some energy? Need to cool off from triple-digit temperatures? Satisfy both urges on the high road to Reno, just east of Sacramento at Roseville's Golfland SunSplash.
If you can't find something here to fritter away your time, you aren't breathing. Located just off Interstate 80, Golfland SunSplash has 12 water slides, a mini-motor racetrack and two goofy miniature golf courses.
Along with the water slides, rides and putt-putt fun, the park has King Ben's castle, which houses more than 200 arcade games and a state-of-the-art laser-tag arena called Lazer Knights.
The Fastcar Racetrack is where challenging your friends and family to a hair-raising race to the checkered flag turns everybody into Dale Earnhardt Jr. or Danica Patrick.
Joining the fun for the hot summer months is SunSplash, a family water park that, in addition to 12 thrilling slides, boasts a 450,000-gallon wave pool and a lazy-float "river." Among the rides are the Master Blaster, a wet-and-wild water roller coaster; The Stealth, a straight drop down a five-story-high halfpipe; and the Dark Holes, a pair of tubes with more than 350 feet of twisting where riders are enveloped in darkness.
A number of the slides have a height requirement of 4 feet, but for the smaller guests, there is Adventure Island, an oasis of water fun only 3½ feet deep that is meant to delight kids age 5 and under.
Guests at the other end of the age spectrum -- those of us approaching, entrenched in or a bit past middle age -- can grab a tube and go floating in the Bermuda Triangle. Although the name doesn't conjure up the notion of a relaxing ride, it is an enjoyable, effortless float where the gentle current does all the work.
Fun like this is bound to work up an appetite, and the park offers a couple of snack bars.
Grab your towel, your caddie, your racing goggles and your sense of adventure, Golfland-SunSplash is ready to thrill ya!
