ALEX'S LEMONADE STAND: Dale Commons Assisted Living Community at 3900 Dale Road will host Alex's Lemonade Stand on June 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Alex's Lemonade Stand began eight years ago in the front yard of Alex Scott. Alex was a cancer patient who has since died of the disease. Out of these efforts was born a fund-raising movement. It has grown to a foundation that has raised more than $6 million nationwide to fight childhood cancer.
KIDWATCH: DMC Foundation, a nonprofit organization, is offering a baby-sitting safety class in June 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students will learn how to recognize and handle emergencies, basic first aid and CPR, and personal, water and fire safety. Also covered will be basic infant care, activities for different age groups, behavior management and the importance of responsibility. The course follows the curriculum of the American Safety and Health Institute. Graduates receive a certificate of completion, a KidWatch Kit, and parents receive tips on helping student be safe sitters. The DMC Foundation classroom annex is at 700 McHenry Ave. Parents are invited to attend a KidWatch demonstration of skills and to celebrate course completion at 3 p.m. The cost is $40 per student and preregistration is required. SEEKING TALENT: The Stanislaus Arts Council is seeking singers and musical groups to perform in the next season of "Serenades on Sunday." All artist submissions will be carefully considered and selected artists will be compensated for their performances. Performing artists should submit their résumés, publicity materials and photos, and recordings of their musical work to the Stanislaus Arts Council. INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL: Applications for two Rotary International study opportunities are available through the local Rotary district, which includes 55 clubs in the Central Valley and Mother Lode area. The first opportunity is for the Ambassadorial Scholarship program, the second is for the World Peace Fellowship. Applications are being accepted for fall 2009. CASTLE AIR BASE: Castle Air Museum will celebrate its 12th annual Open Cockpit Day on Sunday with the opening of several of the 50 aircraft on display. Among them are the B-52, B-24, B-17, SR-71 and KC-97. Also on display is the "Century Series" of jet fighters, an F-4, F-14 and A-4L Skyhawk. Festivities will include helicopter rides, antique cars, children's events and more. Pilots may fly into Castle Airport and catch a courtesy bus at Gemini Flight Support to the museum. A variety of food will be available, from the world famous "Bomber Burgers" in the museum's cafe to barbecue on the grounds. Admission is $12 for adults; $10 for seniors and youth 12-17; $6 for kids 6-11; and free to those 5 and under or those on active military duty with ID. FLEA MARKET: The Mariposa County Fish and Game Protective Association will host its 43rd annual Flea Market on May 31 and June 1 at the Fish and Game Hall on Darrah Road in Bootjack.
