I am in sixth grade and am doing this for a grade, but whatever I write comes from the heart. I am writing in response to the Jan. 24 column by Jeff Jardine ("Really tough getting help for a cat stuck up pole"). I am not a cat lover, but I am furious that all of the Merced agencies could leave that kitten to die. I could not believe that the Fire Department lied about not having a ladder so that they did not have to save that poor innocent kitten. I thought that animal control was here for situations like this. I want all of the agencies to know that I am ashamed of them.
I am proud of the fact that rancher Bob Burns called agency after agency. It was not your fault that the kitten died. You did the best you could to save it. You cannot forget the dogs. If they were not there, Mr. Burns would not have noticed the kitten. If he did not notice, he would not have tried to get help. I cannot get over the fact that all the agencies lied to get out of a loving job.
Never miss a local story.
