Modesto police conducted a raid early Friday and arrested a man suspected in a drive-by shooting Thursday night in east Modesto.
Oscar Calderon, 19, of Modesto, suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen and ankle, police said. A friend took him to a hospital, where he underwent surgery. His wounds were not life-threatening, Sgt. Ed Steele said.
Police arrested Stefan Glenn, 18, about 1:30 a.m. Friday at his home at 3120 Pelandale Ave. in Modesto. Steele said Glenn was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and weapons-related charges.
Authorities also arrested a 17-year-old boy from Modesto about midnight at his home on suspicion of the same charges, Steele said. The teenager was booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall. Police did not release his name because he is a minor.
Investigators said they believe the teenager was driving while Glenn, armed with a handgun, fired shots from the front passenger seat.
The shooting occurred about 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the 3400 block of Keystone Way, just south of Creekside Golf Course and west of Claus Road.
Investigators said the incident apparently began when the teenager and Glenn drove in a green Acura into the area looking for a man who is a friend of one of their girlfriends, police said.
They intended to confront the man about his relationship with the woman, Steele said. The pair in the Acura stopped and argued with a carload of men in a Jeep Cherokee.
The two in the Acura left, but they returned moments later and Glenn fired several shots at the men, who were in the street, police said. Calderon was the only person hit.
Investigators were able to identify one suspect after a witness called police and gave the first name of the Acura's driver.
Steele said officers went to the driver's home and questioned him. He told police his passenger was the shooter.
Police were then able to identify Glenn and arrest him at his home. Glenn gave several conflicting statements to police, before he eventually admitted to committing parts of the crime, Steele said.
Police recovered the handgun from a nearby apartment.
