The best Tuesday of the year is right around the corner.
In Modesto, Mardi Gras -- the celebratory day before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent -- brings food, music and more to downtown.
This year marks the the 13th annual Tresetti's Fat Tuesday street party. The event, which started as an informal gathering of friends, has grown to a big outdoor bacchanalia that closes off 11th street from J to I streets.
Performing this year in the rain-or-shine event will be the all-local lineup of Earl, Kid Charlemagne, Shades of Grey, Hollopoynt, Moonshine Bandits and Pan Handle. In between bands, DJ Farmboy will spin dance music to keep the crowd moving.
Never miss a local story.
Revelers can eat, dance and drink the night away with the requisite beads and bangles.
"People love the fact they can go every year to this and it grows and grows and grows," Tresetti's World Caffe co-owner Mitch Maisetti said. "I see people in July who say, 'God I can't wait for your Fat Tuesday thing.' There is a cross section of people, ages and ethnicities. It all blends together and we have a good time. We get every kind of person at the party."
Modesto pop station KHOP 95.1 will be on hand for the event and the Fat Cat Music House & Lounge will be open to ticketholders. Partygoers can purchase a VIP ticket for access inside of Tresetti's which includes an all-you-can-eat Cajun buffet and Mardi Gras T-shirt. Maisetti said some 2,000 people attended the street party last year.
