A 42-year-old man was taken into custody by Merced police late Sunday evening after a vehicle pursuit.

Officers say suspect Larry Lewis Lindsay was driving a stolen black Honda Civic that had been taken from the 1600 block of Shadowbrook Drive.

The incident was reported at 10:47 p.m., according to a Merced police press release. Officer Jeremy Salyers spotted a vehicle matching the stolen car in the area of 13th and S streets.

The officer turned around to check the Honda’s license plate, and the driver sped away. The officer pursued the vehicle and confirmed it had just been reported stolen, police said.

After a short pursuit, the suspect was unable to negotiate a turn because of the high speed, and crashed at the intersection of 12th and O streets.

Lindsay was arrested without further incident. After the arrest, police also determined Lindsay was in possession of methamphetamine and illegally obtained prescription medication. He was booked into Merced County Jail on suspicion of reckless driving, possession of a stolen vehicle, drug possession and various traffic violations.

The car sustained heavy damage and was returned to the owner, according to police.
