A rib cook-off will be held at noon today at Club Mercedes, 569 W. Ninth St., Merced. The event will include live music. Admission is $5. Ages 21 and up only. Mog Jog at St. Paul’s
The sixth annual Mog Jog will be at 8 a.m. today at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2916 McKee Road. Proceeds benefit the Brenda Mognis Memorial Scholarship Fund. Fees: $20 pre-entry; $25 at site; $50 family (up to four members, $5 each additional member). Back to school supply drive
A back to school supply drive will be held from 10 a.m. to noon today at Bethesda Apostolic Faith Church, 1822 Canal St., Merced. Red Cross speaker
The National Association for Uniformed Services, H. Wayne Hein Chapter 18, will meet at 10 a.m. today at the Castle Air Museum banquet room. An American Red Cross representative will be the speaker. Booster Club event
The Le Grand High School Booster Club will hold a Beach Bash and Class of 1984 reunion at 6 p.m. today at the Vista Ranch and Cellars, 7326 E. Highway 140. Author Susan Nix will sign copies of her book “Believe in New Beginnings” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Hope Christian Book Store, 3144 G St., Suite 105, Merced. The book is about her journey with Stage IV lung cancer, which she completed 10 years ago. According to Nix, the book combines information and humor and is designed to give others going through cancer a better understanding of what to expect. Playhouse Merced gala
Playhouse Merced will hold its annual gala from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. today outside the 510 Bistro in Bob Hart Square downtown. There will be a raffle with prizes and a “Night at the Sands” casino theme, with actors portraying figures from the Rat Pack, including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin. Tickets are $75 each; a table of eight is $750 and a table of eight VIPs is $1,000 (includes dinner, drink tokens, season flex passes and advertising in the gala program). Atwater ‘Moto Mania’
The Atwater Kart Club and Atwater Police Activities League are hosting “Moto Mania Weekend” today and Sunday at the Tom Dash Memorial Speedway, 500 Industry Way. Today’s events start at 8 a.m., and Sunday’s events run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Events include asphalt racing for bikes and karts, short track and SupermotoUSA championship racing. Elks park breakfast
The Elks park breakfast will be 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday at Merced Elks RV Park, 3600 Wardrobe Ave. Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit, orange juice and coffee. Bloody Marys and screwdrivers will also be available. Donation is $6 for adults and $3 children.
Merced County farmers markets
The Valley Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2877 Atwater Blvd. in Atwater, and the Merced Flea and Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. behind the fairgrounds, 900 G St. EBT is accepted at both. The Merced Certified Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays at 19th and N streets in Merced. The Buhach Farmers Market is open every Monday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4814 Clover Ave. The Le Grand Certified Farmers Market runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays on Washington Street and Le Grand Road, next to Pizza Factory.
