No one was hurt Sunday morning after a 19-year-old man crashed into a house in the 2800 block of North Parsons Avenue, Merced police reported.

The incident was reported at 7:41 a.m. after Isai Jasiel Vega Bernal had been traveling westbound in a red Ford Focus on East 27th Street near North Parsons, according to Sgt. Bobby Chapman.

The driver told police he was smoking a cigar, which had fallen into his lap. The driver then lost control of his vehicle, which rolled through a stop sign and hit the curb of the roadway. The car then hit the home’s front porch and struck a wall, damaging some pipes.

Chapman said the occupants of the house were startled by the loud noise from the crash, but were otherwise unhurt.

Police determined DUI was not a factor in the crash. Chapman said the driver received a traffic citation, but was not arrested.
