San Diego man dies in I-5 crash near Firebaugh

A 21-year-old man from San Diego was killed Sunday night after his pickup overturned several times on northbound Interstate 5, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The name of the driver has not been released, pending notification of his family.
The accident occurred at 11:40 p.m. south of Shields Avenue near Firebaugh. .
According to the California Highway Patrol, the truck traveled off the roadway onto the west shoulder and into the dirt center divide. The 2003 Ford Ranger overturned several times before coming to a rest in the center divide.
According to CHP, the driver was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected. The driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation, but alcohol or drugs use is not suspected to have been a contributing factor.
