Drought gardening talk

Merced College plant sale

Merced College will hold their annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 5 at the college’s greenhouses. They will have vegetables, herbs, perennials, succulents, fruit and shade trees and much more. Call (209) 631-2026 for more.

Old Timers seek honorees

The Merced County Old Timers Association is looking for individuals to honor at the 72nd annual Old Timers Luncheon. The Old Timers committee was formed in 1942 to honor individuals that are 85 years of age or older who have lived in Merced County for 50 years or longer. This year’s luncheon will be held on April 27th at the Italo-American Lodge in Merced. Honorees receive a free luncheon and are presented with certificates and proclamations. Savor Our Symphony

The Merced Symphony will hold its annual fundraiser, “Savor Our Symphony: Italian Night,” from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 4 at the Italo-American Lodge at 18th and U streets. Tickets are $35 per person, or reserve a table seating eight for $500. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres, a no-host bar, a silent auction and a live auction. Volunteer tutors sought

Volunteer tutors are needed at the Merced County Library for its Read and Succeed adult literacy program. There will be an orientation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 2100 O St., and a training session will follow from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the library.
