Two people were injured when a truck rear-ended a car and then drove off the bridge near Fox Grove Park on Sunday afternoon.

The collision occurred in the northbound lanes of Geer Road just south of the bridge that crosses the Tuolumne River about 4:20 p.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Rich Kennell.

A GMC pickup traveling about 70 mph rear-ended a Nissan Altima traveling at an unknown speed.

“The momentum of her car (Nissan) plus his excessive speed shoved her right down the road,” Kennell said. The Nissan stopped several hundred feet from where it was hit and the truck veered to the right, hopped a guardrail and landed about 40 feet below the bridge in the Fox Grove fishing access area.

The female driver of the Nissan was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, and the male driver of the GMC was transported by a helicopter. Their conditions were not available Sunday evening, nor were their names, ages or cities of residence.
