Two juveniles and a man were arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in an apparently drug-related double shooting behind Velvet Creamery on McHenry Avenue on Wednesday night.
Lamar Oldham, 23, of Modesto was arrested, along with a 17-year-old girl and boy, on suspicion of killing 19-year-old Damian Villavicencio. Another 19-year-old man, who was not identified, was also shot during the confrontation. He has been released from the hospital, according to police Sgt. Ivan Valencia.
The men ran inside the McDonald’s next door asking for help and two good Samaritans rushed to their aid. One of them, Michael Cisneroz, said he and another man applied pressure to Villaviceno’s wounds and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation when he stopped breathing.
Cisneroz said Villavicencio was clutching a bag of marijuana when he collapsed on the floor in front of the cash register. He said the other victim, who had been shot in the arm, took the bag and threw it in the trash. Valencia confirmed Thursday that the shooting appeared to have been motivated by drugs, specifically marijuana.
Car heard crashing
Residents of a nearby apartment complex said that moments before hearing about a half dozen gunshots, they heard a car crashing. A gray sedan, the victims’ car, was left running behind Velvet Creamery. The back passenger window was shattered and there were bullet holes in the door.
Police located all three of the suspects within about 20 minutes of the shooting but continued to search the residential area behind the restaurants for about an hour afterward.
The two teenagers were found behind a nearby dental office. Oldham was found walking on Mark Randy Place.
Valencia said a gun was recovered during the search. Police have not determined who shot Villavicencio.
